Maternity Health
Miners Family Health Center offers an exciting team approach to prenatal care for women and their babies offered by Gwen Eymann, NP and Wendy Paye, RN. Their goal is to make the pregnancy a positive experience as well as give the baby a healthy start in life. The services are available to any woman eligible for Medi-Cal before the pregnancy and up to two months after and include an in-depth assessment of a woman’s pregnancy in four categories:
- OBSTETRICS: Gwen Eymann, NP will conduct the prenatal medical visits and evaluate the baby’s well-being. The care will be co-managed with the obstetricians who will be doing the delivery at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.
- NUTRITION: Wendy Paye, RN will review the mother-to-be's diet and make suggestions to maintain a healthy pregnancy and prevent problems. WIC services will be explained and referrals can be made if desired to the registered dietician on staff.
- HEALTH EDUCATION: At every visit the woman’s questions will be answered. You will be encouraged and provided the care to meet your individual needs. The RN educator will discuss various topics through the pregnancy at the appropriate trimester. Lamaze classes are available for free at the hospital which will help a woman prepare for a happy, healthy birth experience.
- PSYCHOSOCIAL SERVICES: A woman’s emotional well-being is important to the baby’s healthy development and is important to our staff. At each visit, an assessment will occur to see how the woman’s life is going and will be evaluated. Topics such as substance use, depression, and living situations will be covered. Referrals will be made when appropriate including individual counseling, if desired.
