About Western Sierra Medical Clinic, Inc.

Western Sierra Medical Clinic (WSMC) is a non-profit community health center providing comprehensive medical, dental, maternal and behavioral health services for over 17,000 patients in Nevada, Sierra, and Yuba Counties. With sites in Downieville, Grass Valley, and a mobile clinic, we continually look for ways to improve the lives and health of our patients throughout the region. WSMC does not deny services to patients due to their inability to pay and offers sliding fee discounts to patients that qualify. This health center is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n).

HISTORY:  WSMC Downieville was founded in 1975 by a group of community volunteers dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of residents and visitors in Sierra County. Located in the middle of the Tahoe National Forest, WSMC became a funded Federally Qualified Health Center in 2007. In August 2008, WSMC added a Community Mobile Clinic to provide services in eastern Yuba and western Sierra County. In January 2010, WSMC and Miners Community Clinic, located in Grass Valley, joined together to become a single corporation under the direction of CEO Scott McFarland. The resulting Western Sierra Medical Clinic, Inc. builds on  rich histories of ensuring that all patients, regardless of their ability to pay, have access to top quality health care.
